DMAX initial run…

by admin on Jun.13, 2010, under Uncategorized

First of all, I was too busy with other stuffs  last week and this week. Had the DMAX about 2 weeks ago but didn’t touch at all. Everyday when I came back from work, I was staring at the DMAX just lying there helpless. But few days ago, I got phone call from Wong (MOD) and I was invited to close comp at Shah Alam I-City organize by Kenny. Kenny just open up a cafe and wanted to do a mini comp. So cut the story shot, to tell you the truth, I was really busy with work & my daughter. So I started to assemble the car on Friday, after watching Korea against Greece. Finally finish assemble the DMAX on Sunday afternoon, few hours before the mini comp. The assembly was totally base on the manual with no post setup whatsoever. The tricky part was the clutch. Since I havent got any experience with the clutch system, I didnt want to take any risk so I locked the slip clutch both front and rear as how it is taught by the manual.

So as when I got there, I had couple of laps. With the standard ‘as per manual’ setup, the car’s traction was just nice. I had problem with the transition rate to fast – whenever I switch, the rear was way too loose. A quick adjustment I did was to move the rear damper top  into the most inner position – damper more lean. The transition rate now has gone slower than before which is more practical to control and easier to modulate the rear angle. I would want to maintain the damper position for a while. Then comes a bigger problem… the clutch. After few laps, the clutch starts slipping consistently. Bare in mind that I have locked the clutch both front & rear to the maximum as told by the manual, and its still slipping. I could feel the aluminium clutch cover was hot. I tried to have a look at the clutch but due to time constraint, I had to just bare with it. Apart from the clutch slipping, the car (standard setup) was nice & easy to control even though the road surface was not smooth (rough tarmac). Kalau beginner try pun memang confirm senang nak drive (tapi need to do something to lock the clutch or else memang disappointed). How they lock the clutch base on manual does not work on me. Need to find a good way to lock the clutch after this. In Japan, I saw in recent rc magazine, they already come out with a permanent lock clutch for DMAX, produce by Kazama.

Well, I lost to Chong  Nilai by 6-4 & 6-4. Afraid that the clutch might slips anytime, I played safe with not being to aggressive with the throttle. Chong had that extra edge.

Obviously I definitely need to test & practice the DMAX first, but I was so tempted to enter the competition.

Next will be to setup:-

  1. Permanently lock the clutch by any means
  2. FCD 2.0 for counter-steering
  3. C-hub caster 7deg
  4. Rear toe -3deg

Will try these first at RC Planet SS19 next Saturday and see how…

A transition I took…

by admin on May.30, 2010, under Uncategorized

It was last month when I last updated my blog, was busy with other commitments but still have some space to spend rc drifting. While I was busy, I wasn’nt bothered to drift seriously, you could say I was out of focus from rc drifting. It was totally charge batteries, plug and play, that was it.

While most are trying to be the best rc drifters around… I was, I am and I will always have fun…

In 2 to 3 weeks time, I will start to review on rc products… wait and see :)
