Yokomo GP Round 3, 14th December 2008

by admin on Nov.30, 2008, under Uncategorized

Well its officially announced in ww.d1-10rc.com that Yokomo GP Round 3 will be held on the 14th of December 2008 at RC Planet SS19 Subang Jaya. Its the 3rd & final round for 2008 season. I’ve missed Round 2 so I’m not hoping anything. I just wanna try my best and have some fun with freinds and enjoy the event since it will be my last event for 2008. For 2009, I don’t think I’ll be around in Malaysia by the time next season starts. Anyway for this year’s Round 3, I’ve spent last Saturday setting my car. Nothing much was done apart from breaking-in the tires, camber/toe setup, throttle setup and few dry runs. Hopefully I could have some time next Saturday for couple of hours just to build-up my confidence. As for today, my car is fine and ready. Thanks to Azhar & Haidi for re-programming my ESC to a better version.

My bad…

by admin on Nov.23, 2008, under Uncategorized

Well today I managed to try out the TRF415MRE at RC Planet SS19 Subang Jaya. Basic pre-setup was done like camber, toe and anti-squad with the Yokomo Singe-ring tires (since Yokomo Round 3 is coming soon). I was expecting to have very loose grip but it didn’t turn out that way, it was grippy which is nice for the modded motor. I was all over the place, obviously there was something wrong with my setup. Now the grip is just nice and I’m not complaining about the traction. After 2-packs of battery I realize that the setup was too nice during high speed but struggling during mid and low speed. Whenever I initiate a drift, the angle is too much at a sudden rate (I like this only during high speed but not at mid-to-low speed). This was the first time I had this situation. I was blur thinking what to do next since the chassis is totally new for me. I thought it was because of the drag brake as suggested by Eujin, so I minimize the drag brake but still no solution. Then the rain came so decided to stop and went for a consult with Haidi and Azhar, “The Dynamic Duo”. We discussed, argued and did some minor changes. I won’t elaborate what the Dynamic Duo have tweak until next week’s session…

D1-10RC goes A1GP Malaysia 21-23 Nov 2008.

by admin on Nov.20, 2008, under Uncategorized

Me got some complimentary grand stand tickets and planning with some D1-10RC mates going to SIC (Sepang International Circuit) this Sunday 23 Nov 2008 for the A1GP Round Malaysia. If I’m not mistaken, the grand stand tickets cost like RM300. Can’t wait to see Fairuz in action. FYI, Djan is one of the technical engineers in the A1GP team Malaysia.

My Competition Kit

by admin on Nov.20, 2008, under Uncategorized

Just some picture previews of my new competition kit. Nearly done and will give my thoughts after few shakedown sessions ;)

Not the average SP brushless motor thanks to Azhar. Now the motor sounds rough than before… thinking of bringing the power down by 30%???

My Standard Issue

by admin on Nov.20, 2008, under Uncategorized

Been using this KO PROPO EX-1 MARS for sometime but bought the KO PROPO EX-1 UR 2.4GHz few months ago. I tried other controllers but didn’t like it that much. Maybe I’m so used with the MARS design such as the bulky squarish shape, weight, responsiveness, trigger position, trigger travel, steering position, steering resistance, grip size, options/features, menus, etc. So then I decided to upgrade the MARS to UR. Used it during Yokomo GP 2008 Round 1and simply enjoy it. It has the UR features (Ultra Response) whereby I managed to set the steering response to ultra-ultra fast. And much lighter compared to MARS. Menus are easier to maneuver then the MARS. Life a lot easier with the 2.4GHz module, no more frequency clash. And not to forget that the receiver is so undescribally small, you got to see it yourself.

Most may not like it but don’t ask me why but its too personal I love the KO PROPO EX-1 series.

My stock standard Yokomo Drift Package

by admin on Nov.17, 2008, under Uncategorized

I bought this kit in May 2006 from a local hobby store (where I first sat my eye on Mr.Haidi). Djan aggressively forced me to the shop and persuade me to buy a set so that he could have someone to play with! … and now I’m addicted ever since. I’ve been using this kit until now. (Sold my Yokomo BD but I’ve got another kit which I’ll cover some other time, WIP). Back to this chassis; Broke the tub twice last year. Broke the diff case once. Broke rear arm twice. Broke the driveshafts twice. Its not the chassis, its me. I just like to drive it hard.

So nothing I upgraded, its stock. Except that I’ve changed the front diff to a one-way diff. The rear diff I’ve changed to spool (fully locked diff).

You can see the picture above that even the front toe link is un-adjustable, its fixed toe to 0 degree.  Below picture shows the overall chassis, again its stock, no aluminium or whatsoever.

The electronics; Yokomo VFS-FR, Futaba Servo S3003, Yokomo TMAX 23T brushed motor and a Yokomo Starter transmitter/receiver kit. Nothing great about it except for the ESC – one of the far best ESC I’ve tried for drifting. And the Yokomo TMAX 23T motor is one of the best 23Tbrushed motor I’ve used for drifting but unfortunately its really hard to get these days but everyone has obsessed to brushless lately.

The tires I’m using are Max Concept hard compound which I like!

So basically its basic. Below are the stock dampers without no oil, its friction dampening. Not recommended, I’m lazy.

The rest is stock lah. Standard mcm AE86 with a 4AGE… kena clutch-kick somemore…

So overall, I’m not saying that this the best chassis in the world (like what Danial said for his Team Losi chassis) but gives me the fun with less maintainense and keeps me running every weekend without any fails (maybe once or twice) but most of the time its good.

Setups? Well the cambers, toes, ride height and droop as exactly as per manual. No changes were made.

Frankly, my setup is not comparible with other people’s la sebab semua stock standard and I have no plan to upgrade whatsoever. Of course others are better than mine. For competition usage? Urrghhh struggling to keep up with all those lipo and brushless freaks but competitive enough I’d say (If you see this car could get close to you car, that means something is clearly wrong with you or your car ;) by right it shouldn’t).

At this moment, I’ve already put this kit into my storage. Too many things to do at this moment (kahwin, games, families, etc.). Concurrently I’m preparing another chassis which I’m dying to try it out. Bought it sometime ago from someone but don’t have the time to do it. Hoping to get it prep, shake it and test it for Yokomo GP 2008 Round 3… soon! And this time I’ve got new team memberS…
